Why authenticity and tangibility matter

In a world saturated with fast fashion, dupes and trends that come and go (sometimes overnight) - authenticity has emerged as a quiet but powerful force.

Tangibility matters too; the opportunity to hold and behold special, unique objects or artworks that are real. That embody a human, creative element; that aren't mass produced or fake. That have been made in an ethical way with care and consideration.

Staying small feels right

I've often been told I should seek out ways to scale Piece By Piece Home, that the one-of-a-kind design process is limiting my business. They have a point, but that's also not the intention of this small business. I love the design process and the fact that all my pieces are unique. That makes them authentic and tangible. Also collectable.

One-off designs

Authentic design begins with a clear understanding of purpose. As a creator I remain true to my vision, the resulting work doesn’t just look good—it feels right. It resonates with people (have I mentioned I have the best customers?). There’s an emotional undertone to authentic design that can’t be faked. When you touch something genuine it evokes the feel good factor.

When you sense that something has been designed with intention and integrity, it builds trust - and trust is one of the most valuable currencies for a small business.

Connection over mass production

Rather than replicating trends or mimicking popular styles, I'm aiming to draw from real stories, experiences and sourcing adventures.

I've been lucky enough to travel to Europe and the USA multiple times since founding Piece By Piece Home nearly 9 years ago. I've found some truly sensational textiles, embellishments and vintage pieces. I relish the hunt, the design process and then sharing the designs. I love it all.

Vintage textiles, like the Italian velvet from 1950's and 1960's glory box bedspreads, tends to feature in lots of my designs. Textiles that I give a new life to as one-off clutches, bespoke bags and luxe totes.

Timeless over trends

I think design that chases trends without substance can quickly become dated. I'm noticing we are in a world where more people are hungry for realness and connection. They are interested in the story behind pieces, and are keen to fill their home or wardrobe with things that are special - rather than disposable.

Thanks to you!

I'm excited to continue my design journey and collaborate with talented local, Australian sewers. Producing very small runs of one-off pieces feels right to me, and I'm sincerely grateful to everyone who supports this small business.
